I have posted very few photos on @instagram relating to my 👶, but this incident I feel compelled to share with the community. I purchased the @skiphop Tuo high chair from @welldotca for its versatility in being able to convert to a toddler chair. The last image in this post is a photo from when I was happily using it with 👶 as he was exploring purees. This chair was the subject of a voluntary recall which I received from well.ca due to the fact that “These affected products could post a potential fall risk, if the leg or legs detach from the seat.” The chair with the broken leg pictured in the first image of this post is NOT the recalled chair. It is the one I received as a replacement this January (5 months ago)! My 👶 was eating his lunch sitting calmly in his chair when the back leg suddenly snapped off, sending 👶 tumbling to the tiled floor, still strapped in the chair. It was an unsettling experience for all of us to say the least, but after seeking medical attention we came away with only a little goose egg for 👶, and stress and frustration that the quality issue seems unresolved with this chair design for me. Now that’s just it. We were lucky. The injuries weren’t critical. There was no blood or broken bones. Just mostly hot tears and frustration, followed by relief. In my interactions with the Consumer Affairs team @carters.mybaby which now owns the Skip Hop brand, I initially received only an apology, an offer of a refund for the high chair, and a reimbursement of my medical bills (they’re based in the US). After many discussions, I also received a small plush giraffe and a $100 gift card. It was only after the THIRD time I asked them in writing to confirm that the model number would be added to the recall that they confirmed it wouldn’t be. See attached. This is where you come in. You need to know that these chairs may still pose a safety risk to 👶 and decide for yourself whether it’s worth the risk since their next steps are to “continue to monitor that particular date code for other reports of defects.” It’s up to you to make an informed choice. Will you still choose to purchase or sell these chairs now that you know this risk?
